Circuits, fire ratings and IP zones
Lighting is electrical work, so it falls under Part P and is certificated with the rest of the installation. Circuits, switching and dimming are designed at first fix, before any plasterboard goes up.
Recessed downlights cut holes in a ceiling that may form part of a fire-resisting construction — between floors, or between a garage and the dwelling. Fire-rated downlights restore that resistance, and in a loft-converted house they are not optional.
