Eighteen years, one way of working

S S Builders London Ltd is an established London construction company that grew from a family-run business set up in 2008 into a company employing a team of experienced and trusted tradesmen.

Family values are still maintained throughout the workforce — honesty, consideration and discipline. The company has a genuine love and creativity for its work, and that is reflected in what satisfied homeowners say about it.

We practise a strict ethical code: to be respectful, truthful and reliable, to be bound by the terms we agreed, and to be efficient with both time and budget. Those are not slogans; they are the reason the payment terms below exist.

We are a multi-task, one-stop construction company that also serves the commercial market. We handle renovation and installation work as well as new builds, extensions and loft conversions.

What one contract actually changes

Most domestic building jobs in London are run by a series of separate trades who each turn up, do their part, and leave. It works until something goes wrong at a junction between two of them — and then nobody owns the problem. The plasterer says the electrician left the chases too deep; the electrician says the plasterer should have made good.

We carry our own bricklayers, plasterers, carpenters, plumbers and electricians, so those junctions are ours. One written scope, one programme, one project manager and one invoice. When something needs resolving, it gets resolved rather than negotiated.

It also changes what we can honestly take on. Because we are paid in arrears of completed work, we cannot afford to start a job we do not have the people to finish — which is precisely the constraint that keeps our sites from standing empty for three weeks while a crew is somewhere more profitable.

Domestic and commercial

The bulk of our work is residential: extensions, loft conversions, refurbishments and new builds for homeowners across London. That is where the company started and it is still the core of it.

We also serve the commercial market, handling renovation and installation work for businesses. The contractual approach is the same — a written scope before a start date, and payment against work completed — but commercial jobs are usually programmed around trading hours, which means evening and weekend working where the alternative is closing a business down.

Whichever it is, the paperwork at the end is the same: building control sign-off where an application was required, electrical certification under Part P, and a handover pack you keep.
