Design, testing and commissioning
A wet system is designed around heat loss per room, pipe spacing and flow temperature. The insulation beneath the pipework is what makes it work: without it, a meaningful share of the heat goes into the slab and the ground rather than into the room.
Pipework is pressure-tested and left under pressure while the screed is poured, so any damage during the pour shows immediately rather than after the floor finish is down.
Screed then has to cure before heat is applied, and the system is commissioned by raising the temperature gradually to a schedule. Rushing that cracks the screed.
Controls are zoned per room, and the installation is certificated as part of the electrical and heating work. Because the system runs at a lower flow temperature than radiators, it is also the decision that makes a heat pump viable later.
